    Job Summary

    Under the general supervision of the Associate Director of the Bob Murphy Access Center (BMAC), the Life Project Coordinator engages in the Interactive Process with the students on a daily basis to perform analysis of all the student’s impacted major life activities and determine the appropriateness of these accommodation and services. The resulting services and accommodations provided to students include: the scooter program, note-taking provisions, all aspects of testing accommodations (including but not limited to those of University placement exams, standardized exams, extended time, conducive testing environment, and alternative media/assistive technology), accessible campus parking, tutoring, accessible furniture, etc. The incumbent works with students in time-sensitive situations and critical times of the academic semester to provide disability management counseling and evaluate the effectiveness of previously determined accommodations; the incumbent utilizes professional judgment to level the playing field through creative problem solving and collaboration with academic departments and campus partners.

    Additionally, the Life Project Coordinator develops, coordinates and evaluates the Life Project program for students with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and other neurodiverse/communicative disabilities through weekly meetings, peer coaching, life skills classes, employment preparation, and a Summer Bridge Residential Program with the goal of assisting new and existing students with integrating both socially and academically on the campus. The Life Project Coordinator represents BMAC within the campus community through education and programming.

    Finally, the Life Project Coordinator provides services that are equitable, inclusive and provide culturally sensitive services that enhance the quality of campus life. The Life Project Coordinator uses a student-centered and equity-minded approach in all communication and service efforts.

    Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.
    • Hiring Range: The hiring range for this position is $5,083 - $6,157 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.
    • CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $5,083 - $7,228 per month.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    Knowledge of community disability services for college students preferred. Take responsibility for an extensive level of confidentiality as well as maintaining a particular sensitivity to confidentiality issues in all communications. Ability to communicate and work effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Oral communication skills to communicate diplomatically and effectively with co-workers, staff, and departmental staff. Ability to work effectively and productively as part of a team through close collaboration and coordination with colleagues and others. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and maintain a positive and respectful attitude. Working knowledge of standard safe work practices.

    Ability to consistently report to work on time prepared to perform the duties of the position. Demonstrated administrative leadership and clinical supervision experience. Expertise and/or successful experience in crisis intervention and working with a broad range of clinical problems. Experience in research/analysis and evaluation of clinical services and clinical data reports. Experience/ability to consult with the campus community regarding student concerns. Must be able to interact in a positive, respectful, and professional manner with campus community, including staff, faculty, donors, et. al. especially when under pressure. Communicate with the University community in a civil and articulate manner. Excellent writing and editing skills (including grammar, sentence construction and vocabulary) to compose various documents to various audiences. Outstanding grammar and proofreading skills. Strong computer skills and experience with a broad range of Microsoft Office Suite products (including Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) to prepare a wide variety of correspondence, reports, presentations. including applications related to Counseling Center operations. Experience with electronic medical records, highly preferred.

    A strong knowledge of HIPAA regulations for mental health agencies, and FERPA for educational needs. Evidence of progressive administrative and professional development specifically in the area of mental health, autism, and neurodiverse needs. Experience with working with a diverse group of individuals and multicultural university environment. Demonstrated skill in assisting and speaking with people of various ages, socio-economic, cultural and/or educational backgrounds. Ability to coordinate, organize and demonstrate command of a complex and continuously changing array of information, dates, places, and people in a systematic way to optimize efficiency and minimize duplication of effort in the process of performing job functions. Ability to accomplish multiple tasks simultaneously, work under pressure, and work as part of a team. Ability to consult with students, staff, faculty, and parents regarding student concerns. Ability to coordinate events/programs. Ability to lift boxes or items weighing ~25 lbs. to and from event locations.

    Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

    Education and Experience

    Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in one of the behavioral sciences, public, or business administration, or a job-related field and two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas required.

    Ability to work weekends and a flexible work time as needed and determined by operational needs.

    Preferred:

    • Master’s degree in Educational Counseling or related field.

    • At least 5 years of professional experience and knowledge working with students with disabilities and programming, especially with students of neurodiverse abilities in a higher education environment.

    • Experience with utilizing an equity lens in employment practices and respectful interactions with others.

    • Demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion including evidence of equity mindedness in previous experience.

    • Possess a valid California Driver's License to drive University vehicle.
