Law Department, Domestic Violence Division Pay Range: starting at
$25.27 per hour
Work Location: 414 E. 12th St.
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

What you'll do
- Support City Attorneys in tort and employment litigation by compiling, researching, reviewing, and organizing case documents to ensure accurate and complete case preparation.
- Draft legal documents, including pleadings and motions, to support litigation strategy and court filings.
- Schedule and coordinate interviews and meetings with attorneys, clients, witnesses, and expert consultants to keep cases moving efficiently.
- Review and summarize medical records, reports, and other evidentiary materials to assist attorneys in case evaluation and trial preparation.
- Conduct legal research, including case law review, and maintain organized case files to support motion practice and trial readiness.
- Assist with all phases of trial work and motion practice, performing additional tasks as assigned by the City Attorney to support successful case outcomes.

REQUIRES - An accredited Associate's degree or certificate in paralegal studies (sometimes also called legal assistant or other similar terms); OR an accredited Bachelor's degree; OR high school graduation and 3 years of experience working in a law office performing administrative work

Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained. Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.
If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
